Dark Horses for Australian Open 2018

The Australian Open is one of the four Grand Slam events which have been the biggest on for tennis and its popularity. Since 2004, 56 of these Grand Slam events have taken place. Names like Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Stan Wawrinka have been able to claim 52 victories of those 56 events. The dominance by these players has been so much that it is becoming a rarity to witness anyone out of these names to win the Australian Open. The 2018 edition could be one that witnesses a significant change in this regard. Here are the top names likely to win the Australian Open while being classified as rank outsiders:

David Goffin
Goffin can be something of a trendy pick as he has been able to rise up the consideration after his incredible effort in the Davis Cup. He was able to win over the likes of Jo-Wilfred Tsonga, while he was also able to achieve success at the ATP finals.

Alexander Zverev
It is remarkable to know that Zverev is only 20 years of age. Even though he has not been to the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam, he has shown an incredible amount of promise. After winning titles at the likes of Washington and Munich, Zverev may be ready to step up to the next level.

Grigor Dimitrov
Dimitrov comes on the back of one of his best seasons, even if he did not end up winning a major title. After his successes at the Cincinnati Masters and ATP finals, he has been able to win major titles in Brisbane and was also able to reach the semi-finals of the Australian Open. He has now reached two Grand Slam semi-finals. There are certainly external factors that contributed to his impressive performance, but he has been able to get much more break point opportunities.
